Does size matter?

Portion Size that is!

When it comes to weight control and overall health, it is important to pay close attention to portion sizes (the amount of food that you eat during a meal or snack).  While choosing healthy foods is one part of the equation, it is just as important to know how much of those healthy foods you should be eating.

A good starting point for practicing portion control is by imagining your plate has been split into four equal parts- fill two parts with vegetables, one part with a protein, and one with a whole grain.

Another helpful way to monitor portion size is by using “hand measurements” as a way to measure your servings. The guide shown below explains how to use your hand to determine the serving size of certain foods. This is a great tool because you can use it anytime and anywhere.
